For many years I have encouraged Mark Wayman to publish a book based on the treasure trove of truck photos he has taken. His skepticism over the many road blocks to actually getting a book published in a timely fashion was always an issue for Mark. I shared his frustration as I had experienced similar difficulties of my own. Mark, being an accomplished modeler and extraordinary photographer, finally became convinced by Sean and Brandon Lewis of Buffalo Road Imports to actually proceed with the project. "Oversize" is the result of that collaboration, a book unlike any other in the transportation genre. Considering the tremendous volume and body of work in this category, the task to narrow the subject matter to what could be efficiently put in an affordable book was indeed daunting.
This book of marvelous photos by Mark Wayman is divided into 13 chapters covering the many categories of oversize trucking. My personal favorite “Super Haul,” is a veritable “who's who” of the over dimension hauling companies of the western U.S. Inside this chapter you will see rigs from Bragg, Intermountain Riggers, American Heavy Moving and Rigging, Jake's, and Pan Western just to name a few. The photos are of extraordinary, one of a kind rigs. The scope and breadth of some of these heavy haul moves is beyond description, but suffice to say, you will have a front row seat as you page through this unique documentation of a very specialized part of the trucking industry.
Mark’s connection to the scale model hobby is also apparent as there is a chapter devoted to "Oversize in Miniature".
Bravo to Mark Wayman and Buffalo Road Imports for this tremendous undertaking and for bringing this book to market. I assure you if you are a fan of trucks and trucking you will love this book. For those of you that are model builders this book should be inspirational. If you are a fan of heavy haul trucking you must have this book for your collection. "Oversize" is a true crowd pleaser.
