Brass Terex Titan 33-19 Mining Dump Truck; Westar Configuration

1/87th or HO scale model of a Terex 33-19 Titan Mine Truck. The model was produced by Engineering Model Developments and is made from all brass components. The model is out of production and was a limited production run. Features detailed interior and exceptional museum quality detail levels. The dump box is movable but because of the weight of the bed it will not stay in the raised position without assistance. Front steering is posable and the model has movable rubber tires.

The Terex Titan was the largest mine truck on earth when it was announced at the American Mining Congress Convention (AMCC) in Las Vegas NV (USA) in October 1974. At a 350 ton capacity it had a 100 ton edge over all other competition.  At the show the dump bed was loaded with 5 General Motors automobiles which were secured to the bed as it was tilted at a 55 degree angle, quite an impressive sight. General Motors the corporate owner of Terex at the time ran television ads that featured Jack Nicklaus hitting golf balls out of a sand trap created in the bed of the truck. The Titan worked mostly in Canadian open pit mines. In 1984 the truck was overhauled by its new owner Westar Mining. The rebuilt truck included several modifications but one of the significant alterations was the removal of the engine compartment doors to increase heat exchange air flow.  As the new owner of the truck Westar Mining also painted the Titan in its corporate color scheme. When the Titan was finally retired in 1991 it was donated to the city of Sparwood BC in Canada. The city removed much of the exterior details and repainted it back to the original Terex green and the truck remains on display to this day.

The Terex green miniature model did not have any engine detailing as the engine compartment on the real truck was completely enclosed. On the Westar version of the real truck with its open engine compartment, the twin EMD (Electro Motive Division of GM) locomotive prime movers were quite visible. This model of the Westar version includes full engine detailing that is why it is more expensive that the Terex green model.
